Mistakes You Do When Trying To Conceive

If you are trying to get pregnant, it can become really tough to hear the good news. A little time is natural so don’t get so worried about doing everything right all the time. But, if it is taking much more time than you would have imagined it to be, you may want to know about some common mistakes that couples generally make when trying for a baby. Here, we bring you some of these:

1. Indulge In Lovemaking At A Wrong Time

To put it in simple words, conception is about getting the timing right; it is all about the math of when a woman ovulates. So, if you are not indulging in lovemaking during the ovulation window, the amount won’t matter. Most women generally have a 28-day monthly cycle where the ovulation will occur around 14 days prior to the next menstruation. But, that is generally not the case with most women. In such cases, you need to figure out both the length and the midpoint of the cycle. And, the ovulation will generally occur somewhere between four days prior to and after the monthly cycle’s midpoint. Also, there are several other ways to track ovulation, be it tracking the cervical mucus, measuring the basal body temperature, or even the ovulation predictor kit.

2. Wait Too Long Before Reaching Out To A Doctor

When couples face problems while trying to conceive, they tend to wait for too long before approaching a doctor. Additionally, if you are already aware of some preexisting conditions that may cause some delay, let your doctor know immediately. Medical professionals or specialists can better understand your problem and guide you accordingly. Also, there are chances that everything might be alright and you are worrying for no reason. And, your doc will let you know the same.

3. Think Too Much About The Positions

If you are concerning yourself with the ‘correct’ position while indulging in lovemaking, you are just getting more worried than you need to be. There is no evidence to prove that positions can help make conception easier. As we mentioned earlier, it is all about the timing. So, ease up on the positions and try to keep it fun.

4. Stressing All The Time

You may already be aware that anxiety, stress, and depression can have a negative influence on conception. Stress can cause hormonal imbalance that can further result in interference with ovulation cycle. Thus, women under stress might not ovulate enough. Perhaps, you can indulge in some de-stress therapy, yoga, or meditation to keep the anxiety at bay. It is important to maintain both physical and mental health if you are planning to conceive.

5. Indulge In Lovemaking Only On Ovulation Day

There are times when couples get physically intimate only on the ovulation day. But, even if someone’s cycle is pretty regular, they may start to ovulate just a day before or after the predicted date. So, if you are trying to have a baby, it is always better to stay active for a few days prior to and after the ovulation day.

6. Have A Bad Lifestyle

Many couples are unaware of how much impact an unhealthy lifestyle can have on fertility. Consumption of alcohol and particular drugs may disturb the body’s reproductive functions. It might also deprive the body of its nutritional requirements. In fact, weight issues, whether you are overweight or underweight, might interfere with fertility too. So, try to maintain a healthy lifestyle, be it exercising or consuming the right food. Also, steer away from bad habits like drinking and smoking.
