5 Things You Should Never Do No Matter What After Having A Baby

Unfortunately, there’s no manual that prepares us for motherhood. While motherhood comes naturally to some, others might find themselves completely clueless and lost. But regardless of everything, the one thing we can all agree on is that it’s not easy. Every mom in this world makes mistakes and it takes a lot of trial and error before adjusting to this new role. So, naturally, there are a few mistakes that all of us would make. And we might even regret a few of them later in life. If you don’t want to add more regrets in that mind of yours, here we break down 5 things a mom should never do after having a baby.

1) Not Following Your Instincts

With tons of advice flowing your way from cousins, friends, relatives, neighbors, and that stranger at the grocery shop, you will be caught in the dilemma of following your instincts or listening to them. People will always make it seem like they know better since they have already been through it or because they know someone in the family who did. Though it might be hard to shut down all that noise, when in confusion, always listen to your heart.

It’s okay to follow someone’s advice if you find it helpful or if it’s coming from someone whom you have blind faith in. But if that’s not the case, it’s perfectly okay to make your own choices or ask your doctor for help.

2) Ignoring Your Baby

People would tell you not to pamper too much or hold your baby too long. But guess what, it’s your baby, not theirs! Hold him to your heart’s content and run to him if he needs you. Crying is their way of communicating as they are yet to develop their communication skills. So whenever your baby cries, take this as a cue. Babies can cry for various reasons such as hunger, boredom or a wet nappy. Ignoring your baby can only lead to further anguish and crying. So, next time your baby cries, don’t worry about spoiling him or pampering him too much and enjoy your time cuddling.

3) Not Prioritizing Your Health

With the erratic sleep schedule and constant hustling to get everything done, new mommies tend to forget to take care of themselves in the first few years of a baby’s life. But what most moms don’t realize is that you won’t be able to do a good job if your health gets compromised. By getting enough sleep and eating right, you will be able to do the best of your abilities and be more efficient.

4) Ignoring Your Feelings

Taking care of a baby is a Herculean task. With your baby occupying most of your time, it can be hard to focus on yourself. Adjusting to this new phase of your life can take some getting used to, and you might even hit some bumps along the way. And the happiest phase of your life may not be like you imagined after all. Hence, it’s important to acknowledge these feelings and find the courage to talk about it with your husband or partner. Seeking professional help is also another great way to cope with it. Remember, you don’t have to do it alone.

5) Feeling Guilty For Focusing On You

Ask any mom and this would be the one thing every one of them could relate to. Whether it is having some quality alone time, going for a spa, or even buying something for yourself, moms end up feeling selfish for doing something that makes them happy. Being a mom is not about compromising your happiness and it’s certainly not about putting yourself last every single time. So it’s okay to sometimes go ahead and do what makes you feel good because you don’t have to always derive your happiness from your child.

Last tip: Never compare yourself to others. Each woman’s journey to motherhood is unique and try to derive strength from other moms instead of pulling each other down or envying them.
